// about
We build software for people who want to own it.
The Code Mill is a small team software workshop. We design and ship custom websites, Android apps, and tools, and we do it in the open.
What we do
We take on a small number of projects at a time and bring each one to production. We want to steer the internet away from the big tech ethos and into the hands of individuals and small businesses. Websites, Android apps, and the custom tooling in between. If it can be built in the open, we're interested.
The ethos
In an increasingly monitored world, most software is built to extract. Extract attention, extract data, extract consent one dark pattern at a time. We think there's a better way to build.
-
01
Open source first
The source ships with the product. You can read it, audit it, fork it, and keep it running when our engagement ends.
-
02
Privacy by default
No hidden telemetry, no third-party trackers, no "anonymous" analytics. You choose what happens to your data.
-
03
Data sovereignty
Your data lives on infrastructure you control. Self-hostable by default, exportable always, lock-in never.
-
04
Freedom of choice
Software should expand your options, not narrow them. We build tools that put decisions back in your hands, if you host with us, no lock-in, full transparency.
Why "The Code Mill"
A mill takes raw material and works it into something precise, useful, and lasting. We think of code the same way. Craft software shouldn't be a sales pitch or a black box. We think about software engineering the same way we think about mechanical engineering just well-made tools you can rely on.
